Beothuck Building, Or Gallery, Vancouver 2012

The title of the exhibition is taken from the name of an office building in St.John's Newfoundland, In 2011 Linklater traveled to Newfoundland to visit Cape Spear. While there, Linklater had the opportunity to visit the provincial museum and to think about the history of Newfoundland and the former indigenous inhabitants, The Beothuck. Upon further research of the Beothuck, Linklater locates the story of late Santu Toney and her song which was recorded by anthropologist Franck Speck using a wax cylinder recording device. This song was performed at the opening of this exhibition by musician/cellist Peggy Lee.

Additionally, this exhibition included an email conversation Linklater had with New York based artist Joanna Malinowska, this convsersation was concerned with Malinowska's inclusion of imprisoned political prisoner Leonard Pelltier painting in the 2012 Whitney Biennial.
